At the 2023 Presentation Night, the East Geelong Football and Netball Club presented three exceptional ladies with fitting awards. Gail Ferguson was the recipient of a Club Legend Award, Samantha Rundle and Rebecca Hale were announced as Netball Legends.

Gail Ferguson
Gail has volunteered with the East Geelong Football & Netball Club for the past 27 years, she was the club secretary for 2 years as well as volunteering in the kitchen each week on Thursday and Saturday nights.
She shared a major role in helping establish netball at East Geelong when it was introduced to the GDFL in 2002 and still acts as the clubs team manager of 4 senior netball teams and 3 junior teams.
Gail attends all games on Saturdays (8:00 am to 4:30 pm), and attends all training sessions and practice matches, as well as Club and League vote counts.  She also takes time every week to submit results online to the GDFNL, and is East Geelong's netball representative for the GDFNL, attending regular meetings with the league.  

Gail has worked in Netball Administration for the GDFNL during the finals series for the past 10+ years; assisting with scoring, entering of data and assisting with the overall organisation of the finals.

Gail can answer any question about netball and is always willing to help other clubs and new netball delegates in any way she can, welcomes new players to the club, and brings current and new players together. 

She has won the best club women award for the EGFNC on multiple occasions.

She is a life member of the East Geelong Football & Netball Club, in 2012 received a Service Award from the GDFNL and in 2022 was announced as the GDFNL Number 1 ticket holder and received Life Membership from the GDFNL.

Samantha Rundle
Sam joined the East Geelong Football & Netball Club in 1985, when she was just 11 years old along with the rest of the family due to her brother playing football for East Geelong.

  • Since this time , Sam has worn many hats at East Geelong;
    Club Secretary from 1995 – 1998

  • Club Treasurer from 1999 – 2001

  • Played women’s Football for the East Geelong FNC, playing 65+ games during 2000-2004.

  • Won Football Runners up Best and Fairest in 2000 and Best and Fairest in 2001, 2002 & 2003.

  • Won the League Best and Fairest 2001 & 2002 and was a part of the East Geelong FNC Women’s Football Premiership in 2002.

  • Played Women’s Football for Victoria in 2003/2004 and won the National Championship in 2004.

  • Played 350 games of netball for the East Geelong FNC during 2002-2023.

  • Won the Netball A Grade club Best and Fairest 2002 and C Grade Runners up Best and Fairest in 2014 & 2017.

  • Coached a number of netball teams in juniors and seniors, as well as being selected captain and vice captain a number of times over the years in both football and netball.

 She is also a well deserved and valued Life Member of the East Geelong Football and Netball Club and the Geelong and District Football and Netball League.

Rebecca Hale (Maher)
Our final recipient has accumulated a list of awards that will take some beating.

 Bec played 168 A Grade games for the East Geelong FNC from 2003 to 2011.

Won a total of 6 A Grade Club Best and Fairest over 9 years (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, & 2011)

Bec has won one A Grade Margaret Webb GDFNL League Best & Fairest award in 2005.

Selected in the GDFNL Team of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2010

Multiple GDFNL Best and Fairest Runner up awards.

With a record that is quite remarkable, we congratulate our second netball legend for 2023, Rebecca Hale.
